Lightningfoot dodged the needle spray, fur fluffing up and making him look like a puffy snowball. When the danger had passed, he sighed.
"What now?" he asked. "Want to try again?"

Batpaw though for a second, then shook his head. "No. I don't think there's any point in trying to keep at this," he meowed miserably. He didn't want to embarrass himself further by falling out of a tree for the third time.

Lightningfoot sighed. He hoped his apprentice wasn't entirely discouraged by his experience today.
"We ought to head back then," he decided. "Foxstar tells me you're going to the Gathering tomorrow. You ought to get some rest."

He nodded, gaze firmly planted at the ground. "Okay, let's go," he muttered, trotting slowly off towards the camp. The thought of going to the Gathering tomorrow lessened his bad mood, but disappointment still clung to him like a bur.

Lightningfoot sighed. As disappointed as he knew Batpaw was - it was so obvious - he knew that the apprentice couldn't climb like any other. Lightningfoot was sure they would find a way even though climbing wasn't a necessity. Lightningfoot followed Batpaw back to camp, his nerves frayed. Maybe he could do a short hunting trip with him later, to make him feel better.
For now, though, resting up for the Gathering was important.

(Okay sure, maybe once the Gathering's over we can do the battle training.)
