"She is small," Coalkit mewled moodily. "I was supposed to protect her from the badger, not let her fight it." His eyes narrowed when he heard Ivykit's retort. "Don't be mousebrained!" he spat, all sentiment gone. "You can't be too big to fight badgers! It's easier if you're bigger!" He whipped around to face the warriors. "Tell Ivykit I'm right!" he pleaded.

Pebblefoot looked down at her paws, settling disputes were never her strong-suit. Sighing she crouched down so that she was eye-level with Coalkit, blinking slowly, thinking. "Coalkit," she murmured, "your sister's not at fault for her size, it's not nice that you keep picking on her like this." Shifting uncomfortably, she quickly glanced at Nightstorm, her expression was begging for help. "And. . . She has the right to do what she wants. . . You can't tell her what to do, Someday she will be a full grown warrior who makes decisions for herself." Quickly giving Coalkiy another lick on top of the head, Pebblefoot sat up, "you have to start treating her with respect." The calico finished.

Nightstorm let out a small sigh as the argument broke out, then carefully took the remaining kits off of him. "I'm going to go check on Ivykit..." he whispered to Pebblefoot, walking after the smaller kit. "Hey, Ivykit, do you wanna talk?"

Stonekit rolled his eyes and cuffed his younger brother on the ear, frowning at how the other kit reacted. "Be quiet Coalkit. You made Ivykit upset!"

"Are you three arguing again?" The voice that suddenly spoke from behind the three kits was none other than Smokefang's. She had just returned from a border patrol, hoping to get some rest after the long trek through their territory, only to discover her children squabbling like a bunch of buzzards fighting over a dead animal carcass. Hollyfight must be going insane from dealing with these kits every single day, she thought to herself, feeling sympathetic for her mate.

Pebblefoot spun around when she heard a voice coming from behind. She sighed in relief when she saw it was only the kit',s mother, Smokefang. "Erm, yes, unfortunately. The kits started fighting after a play fight with me and Nightstorm," The calico motioned towards the tom with her tail," If you wouldn't mind stepping in. . . ?" Pebblefoot's voice was a whisper when she said the last part. Ducking her head nervously, she moved to the side so Smokefang could see her kits.

Ivykit looked up at her mother. Well, one of her mothers. Ivykit couldn't help but feel awed by Smokefang - she was big, strong, and fierce! Everything Ivykit wanted to be.
"Coalkit's being mean!" Ivykit said. "He says that I can't fight a badger because I'm too small."

Coalkit growled when Stonekit cuffed him and had just opened his mouth to sling back his retort when Smokefang interrupted them. He whipped around, staring at his mother with wide, distressed eyes. "Ivykit ruined the game!" he protested dramatically. "She was supposed to let us protect her from the badger, not fight it."

Smokefang gave Coalkit a quick lick over his forehead. "Ivykit just wanted to join in on your game, that's all. Would you have liked to sit back and watch your siblings play while you were forced to be the one they had to save? Plus," she added, letting out a little purr, "I don't think Ivykit would be the kind of cat to let others do the work for her. If a badger had her cornered, I'm sure she would make sure it knew she was a strong warrior by giving it some scars to remember her by."

Ivykit beamed up at her mother. For effect, she bounced on her paws and swiped paws with unsheathed claws in the air. She growled, "I wouldn't let any badger get near me - or us!"
She swiped the air so hard that she got unbalanced. She fell onto her back, claws in the air.
