Emberfur glanced over in time to see the swish of Whitecloud's tail. Did the other she-cat want her to go ahead? She hoped that was what she meant. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she crept forward. The squirrel hardly looked more than a scrap, but the sight of it still made Emberfur's mouth water. She paused when she got close enough to pounce and then sprang forward. The squirrel was so absorbed in its business that it never saw her coming. She bit down on the back of the squirrels neck, killing it. "Well," she mewed thoughtfully, rolling the squirrel over with her paw to examine it. "It's not much, but it's... something." The ginger warrior turned over her shoulder to where Whitecloud had hidden herself.

Whitecloud swallowed a gasp as Emberfur made the kill. She'd done it!
"Excellent catch!" She purred, rising from her crouch. It got pretty cramped to stay poised for too long.
The squirrel was pretty lean, as far as meals went, but Whitecloud wasn't about to be sore over that. Food had been pretty tight lately. "It's not a feast, but it'll make some cat very happy!" She said, trying to be encouraging. Thinking about the shrunken fresh kill pile back at camp didn't feel very encouraging, but that wasn't Emberfur's fault.

Emberfur still felt discouraged by her measly catch. Near as she could tell, there wasn't any other prey in the forest. At least not on their side of the border. Perhaps that was an exaggeration, but Emberfur was hungry and she was used to being able to fill her belly in the warm and plentiful months. She sighed and looked to Whitecloud. "Do you want some?" she asked.

Whitecloud was touched by Emberfur's suggestion that she have some of the squirrel.
"Hmm, maybe. I assume you're going to have some too?" She didn't want Emberfur going hungry when she'd been the one to catch it. Things had been a little pinched lately, she deserved her fair sure.
