Firetail himself was looking for fresh-kill. He could smell squirrel, but he couldn't see any around. Unfortunate - he felt like eating anything at this point.
When he turned to look at Redpaw, he saw that she was stalking. He held himself still, waiting eagerly. He prayed to StarClan for her to make a catch.

The mouse's neck crunched between her teeth. Redpaw's whole body was shaking- she had made it! They wouldn't be going back with nothing to show for their efforts.
Glancing down, the mouse was not all that much. At least it wasn't all skin and bones, like that rabbit had been. It smelled strongly of the forest. It might have unwittingly crossed the border. Whatever. It was good for her. She turned her face to Firetail, trying not to let her limbs shake. She wasn't sure whether she was exhausted, excited, or both. She gave up trying to stay calm and beamed.
"I caught it." Her voice was steady, not giving away her elation. A mouse!
While inhaling, something caught her attention. Something off. The forest floor around her smelled very faintly of something that was... not right. For a second, she froze. Had she accidentally crossed the border?
No, that wasn't right. She knew it was a few foxlengths away. But a vague ForestClan scent lingered over the earth around her.
"Does it smell like ForestClan to you? Not the borders I mean... like, right where we are."

Firetail's excitement at seeing Redpaw catch the mouse faded. He padded up to her, mouth opened to catch the air.
His neck fur bristled.
"ForestClan has been on our land!" he growled.

Redpaw was glad it wasn't just here who smelled the foreign scent.
"What should we do?" She mewed. She sounded more upset than she would have liked. It infuriated her that ForestClan cats would think to even set a whisker over the border. The fur on her back spiked a little, and she struggled to calm herself. Firetail would know what to do, and she had a mouse to present back at camp.

Firetail lashed his tail. "There's nothing you or I should do right now," he said. "Buzzardstar and Bluestripe ought to know as soon as possible."
He frowned. He had hoped to keep Redpaw out a little longer, so that they could keep hunting - but it seemed like going after anything more than Redpaw's mouse would be pushing their luck, especially with ForestClan cats possibly about. He dug his claws into the earth.
Buzzardstar will know what to do, he thought. I don't want to risk Redpaw's safety by going after ForestClan fools.
"Let's get back," he decided resignedly. "Another hunting party must be out... and what you've got there will at least satisfy those rowdy kits of Hollyflight's."

Redpaw nervously watched Firetail thinking. She felt like the ForestClan cats were somehow her fault, but that was silly. Still, she couldn't shake her unease.
She nodded politely when he said they would be returning. Stooping gently, she grasped the mouse in her mouth. Her limbs felt heavy, and a foggy worry was beginning to brew in her belly. She just wanted to get back to camp and rest... but not before delivering the mouse to the kits. Redpaw felt a little shy about playing with Hollyflight's kits, but they were really adorable.
(the thread seems relatively finished to me. is there anything else you'd like to do with it?)

((Sure; it's about done. I'll put it in the completed section after this post))
Firetail nodded and led the way back to camp, stomach crying for food. The heat and the lack of prey were one thing - now ForestClan was traipsing about in their territory? What was next, badgers?
