The fur along Pebblefoot’s back rose as she listened to Firetail’s report, how could Forestclan warriors have no respect for borders! Turning her head, she stared at Thrushheart in surprise. Sure, waiting didn’t still well with her either, but there wasn’t anyone here fit for a fight, and she had a feeling that Forestclan wouldn’t take lightly to being confronted. “I think. . . we should wait for the gathering. There will be a truce then, so they can’t attack us.” Pebblefoot stated, tucking her paws under her body.

Thrushheart turned his furious gaze to Pebblefoot his tail lashing.
"Okay, let's just sit back and wait! Let ForestClan grow stronger off of what little prey is left." He snarled. He walked towards Pebblefoot, standing over her. His voice grew quieter as he glared down at the she-cat. "But do you want to explain to the kits why they can't eat soon?"

Pebblefoot's ears flattened as Thrushheart approached her, and quickly turned her gaze to the ground. "Well I'm sorry for wanting to avoid injury! Our cats are in no shape for a fight, Forestclan cats will easily over power us." She snarled, "Besides it's Buzzardstar's decision. Not yours."

"Our Clan is in no shape for a fight because all of our prey is gone!" He growled. "The longer we wait the weaker we're gonna get! And I know that it's Buzzardstar's decision, I'm just hoping that she makes the right one." He turned away from Pebblefoot and started to address the rest of the Clan.
"Look at the fresh kill pile! There's less prey then in the middle of Leaf Bare. Things have to change before we starve!" He looked back at Pebblefoot, glaring at her. "Besides, everybody knows that you're too scared of ForestClan to do anything."

Bluestripe's ears flattened against her skull. She knew her cats were frustrated... but this was too far.
"Stop this squabbling!" She snapped, mostly at Thrushheart. All of her patience fled her. "I know you're tired, and hungry, and yes, ForestClan has crossed the line. Keep your fur on- your clanmates aren't the enemy." Oh, how she wanted to tell him not to test her patience. But already, she'd snapped at Thrushheart. She would apologize to him later. Regret tugged down her anger, leaving guilt in its place. She didn't like him going after Pebblefoot like that, but he had a right to be upset.
"I don't want any infighting. We're pressed enough as is, without us tearing each others' fur off." She said, trying to muster a stern tone. There was no use pretending they weren't tired and starving, so she wasn't going to. She just needed to keep them off each others throats. The Gathering would hopefully settle the nonsense with ForestClan, and they could worry about the prey in their borders.

Pebblefoot hissed silently to herself as Thrushheart began addressing the clan, he was so full of himself sometimes! As soon as he mentioned being afraid of Forestclan the she-cat jolted into a standing position, and warm tears worked there way into her eyes. The memory of her parent's death was still fresh in her mind, it was like a wound that wouldn't heal, but instead just stayed there and festered. "I h-have m-my reasons," she attempted to growl, but instead it came out as more of a whimper.

Firetail frowned. "Bluestripe said enough - that means enough," he stated, narrowing his eyes at Thrushheart. "We're all loyal to FlameClan and I think we can all agree that the heat and the lack of prey haven't helped our attitudes."
He glanced up at the nursery once again, then back down at Thrushheart. "The last thing we need is to not cause a stir. I want ForestClan to pay as much as you - trust me, I do - but we need to think about this. It's up to Buzzardstar what we do, so let Bluestripe go get her and let her decide."

Thrushheart narrowed his eyes right back at Firetail.
"Our attitudes are the least of my concerns! How long is it gonna be until cats start dieing Firetail?" He hissed. "Because if we just keep sitting back and waiting for something to happen then it'll start pretty soon!"

They were still at it. At least it showed hunger hadn't conquered them yet.
Bluestripe didn't have the answers Thrushheart wanted. Surely others felt like him as well... but him and the other cats trading verbal blows in the middle of the camp certainly wasn't getting them anywhere.
"Didn't I say that this was to stop?" She said querulously, voice slightly cracked. "Ah, please... I understand that you're all hungry and scared. Don't be at each others' throats." Firetail and Pebblefoot weren't being terribly aggressive, but she didn't want to be unbalanced. Right now, what she wanted to happen was for the scene in-camp to cool down so she would feel secure turning her back to report to Buzzardstar. She understood why Thrushheart was so upset. She would try and talk to him later, once Buzzardstar was up to date.

Thrushheart gritted his teeth, stopping himself from screaming at Bluestripe. If he wanted to get his point across he couldn't keep yelling like a kit. He ignored his frustration and bowed his head to the deputy.
"Yes Bluestripe." He grunted, still shooting steely glares at Redtail and Pebblefoot.
