Emberfur sat in the shade of a charred tree, out of the heat. She had waited around camp just long enough to figure out she wouldn't be on any early patrols before coming out here. Camp always started to seem crowded to her after too long and her paws had been itching to slip away all morning. For now she was alone, relishing the quiet. She listened to the breeze whispering through the long grass and sighed contentedly as she looked around the territory. It was easy to spot the thick trees that marked ForestClan's territory in the distance. And somewhere on her other side was the river that separated her from MountainClan. She stayed in the middle of the territory for she wasn't keen on chance encounters with cats from other Clans. They made her nervous. Fur lifted along her spine as she remembered the fight that had claimed the lives of her parents. She pushed the thought away and gave herself a shake to smooth her pelt. It was a lovely day, though a bit hot. Not a good time to be living in the past. Her ears pricked and swiveled back at what she thought were the sound of pawsteps behind her. She turned to look back over her shoulder to see where they were coming from.

Whitecloud lifted her tail in a friendly way as Emberfur turned towards her. "Hello," she mewed. She'd woken up a bit late, and all the morning patrols had left. But she wasn't to be kept in camp. The day was too remarkably nice for that. It was just luck she'd seen Emberfur. She quite liked the her, she was never too loud or commanding. "I didn't expect to see anyone else about, but I guess I'm lucky!" She said.

Emberfur offered a friendly smile when she spotted Whitecloud. She was one of her gentler Clanmates and the ginger she-cat appreciated that. "Hello," she called softly back once she was sure her Clanmate was close enough to hear her. She was quiet for a moment as she searched for something to talk about. "Did you get out of patrols too?" Of course she did, or else that's where she would be instead. "What brings you out here today?"

Whitecloud heard Emberfur's question. "In a way," she mewed. "It was more like... I missed them. I was asleep." She confessed. It was a bit silly, but it's what had happened. She'd take some prey back to camp and see about joining dusk patrol. She shrugged. "It's really too nice out to pass up an outing. Normally, I'm burning my fur off!" She giggled. "What's going on with you today?" She asked, curious.

An amused purr rose from Emberfur's throat when the white she-cat confessed to sleeping through patrol assignments. It was okay, though, they weren't so short on fit warriors that one missing warrior would throw the patrols off. She shrugged when asked what she was doing. "Not much," she meowed with a bot of a sheepish smile. "I was just sitting out here and enjoying the day."

Whitecloud nodded at Emberfur. She crept into the shade of the tree, a comfortable distance from the other she-cat. "There's no shame in that," she said in a friendly tone, noting Emberfur's expression. "I mean, it is really nice. No storms or anything, and you can see a good deal with so few trees around," she said. She paused for a moment, thinking. "It's sometimes odd to think that our home used to be covered in trees... that would feel so oppressive!"

Emberfur nodded in agreement. She made a face as she imagined what it would be like to live beneath a thick canopy of leaves. "I bet it gets stuffy in there," she remarked. "I can't imagine the breeze can get around those trees very well. And how can herbs grow with so much shade?" The ginger she-cat sighed. She looked up at the open sky as the wind ruffled her whiskers. "I just don't get it," she meowed with a soft purr.

Whitecloud nodded in agreement. "To tell you the truth," she began, "I almost worry about them, not seeing the sky so often... but then I remember that they're ForestClan!" She laughed.
"I suppose they all manage." She said, in response to Emberfur's comments. "I still think we're better off. Being under all those trees all the time can't be healthy. I mean, it's so breezy and free out here."

"I can't imagine not being able to feel the breeze in my fur whenever I wanted," Emberfur sighed. Right now the pleasant breeze was keeping her from dying in the heat. Okay, maybe dying was a little excessive, but still. "I bet they get too hot. Even with all the shade. Much better in the open." She added the last bit quietly and with a nod as if she was talking to herself. She was quiet for a moment before her belly growled loudly. "Oh!" she gasped, ducking her head in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry, I forgot to grab anything to eat before I left," she explained awkwardly. "I don't suppose you'd want to join me in a quick hunt?" The tabby she-cat rose to her paws as she made the offer and waited to see what Whitecloud would say.

Whitecloud firmly agreed with Emberfur. "Poor things... Oh, well, I guess it's their problem if they're incinerated." She purred in amusement.
Her ears pricked, hearing Emberfur's belly growl. She couldn't help but stifle a little giggle- oh, why was she giggling like a kit? It was just a belly growl.
"I wouldn't mind! It would be good exercise." She smiled. She stood, flicking her tail. A little time with her clanmate in an exciting thing like a hunt would be a good start to her day. She could join a patrol later too- the clan would be well fed.
"I'm ready when you are," she said.
