Emberfur shook out her fur as if trying to shake off the embarrassment of her belly growling so loud. "Great," she mewed when Whitecloud agreed to hunt with her. Prey wasn't exactly plentiful in the heat of the day and two sets of claws would likely be more successful than one. She looked around uncertainly, one forepaw raised and poised to take a step but she wasn't sure where she wanted to hunt. She glanced wide-eyed at her Clanmate before clearing her throat. "Umm... I guess we could try over by the trees?" she suggested, flicking her tail towards the ForestClan border. "Maybe there will be something tasty in the shade?" For all her complaining about the way ForestClan lived, there was no denying that the prey they depended on enjoyed sheltering in the trees sometimes.

Whitecloud nodded agreeably. She noticed Emberfur's shyness, and felt a little bad. It wasn't anything she had said, right? Emberfur was usually withdrawn, but Whitecloud still felt a little unsettled, and wanted to help Emberfur feel more comfortable. But she wasn't really sure what to do that wouldn't be overbearing, so she decided to ignore Emberfur's discomfort.
"Good idea! I bet they'll all be hiding in there. Let's just make sure to not cross the border." She mewed. She trotted off towards the trees, giving a quick glance over her shoulder to check if Emberfur was following.

Emberfur smiled and perked up a bit when Whitecloud agreed that it might be a good place to find prey. Feeling less uneasy now that she'd had a decent idea, she set off after the other she-cat. She nodded resolutely when she mentioned not crossing the border. She definitely didn't want to have to fight an enemy patrol. She wasn't named 'fur' for her fighting prowess, after all. "Maybe we'll find some nice mice," she meowed softly with a wistful sigh. Mouse sounded delicious right now.

Whitecloud flicked her tail thoughtfully.
"Probably! They like to keep to the trees." She said. "I haven't had one in a while," she said thoughtfully. She didn't go to the ForestClan border terribly often. Just for patrols, really, and she wasn't a terribly good hunter.
The two quickly reached the trees. The breezes of the open fields soon faded under the leafy canopy of the border. Whitecloud inhaled deeply. The forest scents came rushing in. The trees on the FlameClan side of the border were much smaller and sparser than the ForestClan ones, but it still felt like a completely different world.
She paused to turn and check if Emberfur was still with her.

Emberfur kept pace with Whitecloud as they neared the trees. As she felt the breeze beginning to die down, she sighed. The trees on their side of the border were much smaller, but it was still enough to make her long for the open spaces again. She sniffed the air, but couldn't locate any prey nearby. Her tail flicked once as she looked to her Clanmate. "I'll follow your lead," she meowed quietly.

Whitecloud nodded absently. The darkness and still atmosphere of the border was already a little disquieting- but there had to be some prey, right?
She quietly padded further in, tail gently bobbing. Listening, she heard the quiet chatter of some birds, and the trickle of a distant stream. It was probably over the border, but trying to get closer couldn't heart. Prey might be wandering close to a water source.
"I hear a stream ahead," she explained. "I don't think it's in our territory, but there may be a mouse or two where we are. They might be attracted to the water." She darted ahead, careful not to disturb the debris of the forest floor. Soon, the larger ForestClan trees loomed ahead. She still couldn't spot the stream, but it sounded like it was close. She stopped many foxlengths from the border. She didn't want to risk crossing over, should she become engrossed in tracking something.

The still air was unsettling Emberfur and if she didn't have Whitecloud to keep her company, she would have abandoned the hunt and turned tail back to more familiar territory. But she kept to her Clanmate's side. The uneasiness grew as they got closer and closer to the border but they stopped before they got so close they were in danger of crossing. "I don't see the stream," she whispered. If there was prey around, Emberfur didn't want to risk scaring it off. "Should we try looking around anyway?" Without waiting much for an answer, she tasted the air and started sniffing around for prey.

Whitecloud nodded. "I think we're close enough." Silently, she hoped no ForestClan patrols would come by. She was no prey-thief, but you never knew which cats would pick a fight over nothing. She would opt to not push it any day.
Emberfur seemed to already be tracking. "I'll stay close by," Whitecloud told her, before slipping off into the trees. Her white pelt had sealed her fate as a hunter- she wasn't called Whitecloud for her hunting skills. She still wasn't quite sure how she'd been given her pelt color. White, especially pure white, was simply not a trait most FlameClan cats had. It was like she was a walking signal for prey: "Warning! Dangerous, hungry cat on the prowl!"
She shook her head, trying to concentrate. She focused on the sounds and smells of the forest- far ahead of her, closer towards the FlameClan moors, something was rustling. She crept, silently tracing a path towards the critter. She wasn't sure what Emberfur was doing. Hopefully she'd realize that Whitecloud had found something.
(since the flameclan plot is underway, they probably shouldn't be too successful in their hunt. any prey they find should probably be critters that crossed over from forestclan.)

((My thoughts exactly ^^))
Emberfur kneaded the soil worriedly after Whitecloud went off. Sure she was hungry, but would hunger be enough to make her a good hunter. She wasn't a bad hunter, per se, but she wasn't exceptional either. She was like that with a lot of things, hence her name. Something told her that she would need to be more than just decent to catch herself a meal today. The forest was just so quiet. Any scents and sounds of prey seemed to be just beyond the border which frustrated her.
She was close to losing herself in thought when she heard a rustling nearby. Craning her head, she managed to spot Whitecloud's pelt moving slowly through the undergrowth. She could tell from her position that the rustling wasn't coming from her Clanmate and immediately dropped into a crouch. She stalked along a path parallel to Whitecloud's, glancing over every so often to make sure her positioning was correct. The warrior moved slowly, careful to keep her pawsteps silent so she didn't risk scaring away whatever it was the pair was stalking.

After drawing close enough, Whitecloud could just make out the shape of a squirrel. It rifled through the detritus of the forest floor. Maybe it was looking for food? It seemed fairly absorbed in its activity. Probably with merit, it looked pretty scrawny. Whitecloud was only barely out of its direct range of sight. It was bound to nice a big, white thing approaching at the edge of its vision. She didn't dare creep closer.
She glanced around. She spotted a little flash of orange in the sparse undergrowth- Emberfur was right with her. She seemed to be at a better angle to approach the squirrel unseen. How could she signal for her to go ahead? Whitecloud deliberately swished her tail towards the squirrel, still crouching. If Emberfur didn't get the idea, she'd try herself, but her clanmate had a better chance.
