Lily sniffed carefully at the rocky earth. It should be right around here somewhere. A musky scent filled faer nose. Here we are. Lily followed the line of scent for a bit, making sure it continued on. Fae padded away from the border line, the side that wasn't Mountainclan land. Lily shook faeself and settled down in a spot of sunlight. Might be awhile. Who knows how often those cats check this border.

Squirrelstar crept through the rocks and crags, her paws knowing the territory well. She kept her stump of a tail low and her senses sharp and alert. She'd heard reports of strangers about in her territory, and with the reports from Snowfoot and Silvertail to consider now she was sure something had to be done.
They get in over here, she thought. From that wretched Twolegplace, no doubt.
She padded up a steep slope, her pace well-adjusted, and reached the border line that marked the very outskirts of the Valley near MountainClan territory. There were still a few peaks between here and the Twolegplace, but they were not as steep or tall, and she could see smoke rising from the strange dens that lay beyond.
Squirrelstar took a deep breath of the clear mountain air, and scented something unfamiliar. She bristled - a cat! And not one she knew... She crouched, keeping herself pressed close to the rock. Squirrelstar peered over the edge and - there! A silver tabby cat. She curled her lip.

Lily opened faer mouth to taste the air. Fae scented more cat-scent, but fae couldn't tell if a cat was nearby or if fae just smelled the border. Fae stood up and stretched. Lily looked at the land on the other side of the border. It didn't look any different from the land fae lived in, but fae knew fae'd get an ear clawed or worse if fae crossed the line. Fae heard a small noise over to the side. Fae pricked her ears and looked around for the source of the sound. Lily sniffed the air again, hoping to find something by scent. A gust of wind blew over Lily and a strong musky, cat scent washed over faer. Fae jumped in surprise and looked upwind, noticing what might be a little bit of brown fur. There's a cat there. A can't believe I didn't notice. These cats must be used to sneaking up on other cats.

Squirrelstar frowned. The wind changing was not something she had counted on, admittedly. She narrowed her eyes at the cat below, who was looking up at her now. Soft, she thought scornfully. They do not belong here.
She decided that there was no point in hiding. Squirrelstar leaped down from the rocks with practiced ease, landing just near the border. She curled her lip at the tabby, unsheathing her claws.
"What is your business here?" she growled.

Lily waved faer tail nervously. "This isn't your land right? I mean, this is the border. I'm allowed to be here, even by your rules." I need to stop sounding so rude. Fae shifted. "I'm not looking for a fight, I'm just a bit curious about this whole 'clan' thing." Lily padded right up to the border. "This is the edge of your land right? How many cats live here? Just two? Are there more 'clans' over here?" I don't get this kind of lifestyle at all, but there must be a benefit if this cat and the one from before both live like this.

Squirrelstar narrowed her eyes. She wasn't expecting such a barrage of questions.
"It may not be our land," she began, "but you've crossed before and I will not allow you to do so again."
She shifted on her paws, looking faer up and down. "You say you're not looking for a fight - but you attacked one of my warriors and you've trespassed more than once. FlameClan might tolerate such intrusions but MountainClan - my Clan - will not; there are enough warriors in these peaks to drive you or any of your trespassing friends away."
((forgive me, I'm a little new at Fae pronouns))

Lily frowned. "I didn't attack your warrior. She attacked me." Fae replied, faer tone cold and slightly confused. "And it's just me here. Most of the other cats stay in twolegplace or don't live in the part of the mountains I do. You seem to think I'm out to get you. What kind of life do you live if you're so scared of a cat one of your 'warriors' has already beaten once?" Lily narrowed faer eyes at Squirrelstar. She talks as if she's the leader of the clan cats. What kind of leader has her fur so easily ruffled by a stranger? ((you're doing fine! tbh im nervous because i dont roleplay that much))

Squirrelstar snarled, "You were somewhere you did not belong! My warrior was defending her territory, and you should have fled. You were lucky Silvertail was merciful - not all of my warriors are!"
Lashing her stump tail, she snapped, "Strangers are not welcome here in the Valley. You think I fear you? You know nothing of fear." Squirrelstar bared her teeth. "If you stray into our borders again you will learn fear - if you survive."

Lily lashed faer tail. "What right do you have to this land over me? What right does a cat have to another's life?" Lily hissed. "I can clearly see that your precious clan isn't worth my time if their leader is like this. I assume you are their leader, based on how you talk as if they belong to you." Fae took a few steps back away from the border. "I'll leave you and your clan alone. Your cats aren't worth the trouble." Lily turned and began to pad away faer tail lashing. Mousedung! She didn't even answer a single question.

((Uh, that's odd; for some reason it cut off most of this thread. Huh. I'll just end it here and archive it into the Completed Threads section, since we were done with it anyway.))
Squirrelstar narrowed her eyes at fae. "My warriors do not belong to me any more than you belong here, rogue," she growled. "But I will defend them with my life if I must, against anything that may pose a threat. I will not risk my Clan's safety by risking an outsider in my Clan's territory."
She watched fae turn and walk away. "Go," she growled after her, "and do not come back."
