Darkeyes stared at the snowy tom, she didn't mean to but he had much more skill than what she had originally thought. He had adopted a hunting technique that made him invisible to prey on the ground and it was quite impressive. "Wow!" She meowed, bounding up to him, purring at his look of satisfaction, "That was what I would call an impressive catch." She studied the squirrel, impressed by the plumpness. "It will make a good meal back at camp." She dipped her head at Lightningfoot, she was glad she had chosen him as a hunting partner today.

Lightningfoot made his way down the tree, squirrel dangling from his jaws. He was careful, so it might have taken longer than he'd liked, but soon enough he was back down on the roots, where he was comfortable. He put his squirrel next to Darkeyes' mouse and buried it. Darkeyes was right - an elder or queen would enjoy their plump catches. Her praise burned his pelt - warm and soft, unlike the beating sun.
"Two pieces already and we're not even at our destination," Lightningfoot purred. "This is going to be a good day!"

Darkeyes purred in amusement as he slowly made his way down the tree, it was obvious he wasn't really comfortable in the trees but she didn't comment. She noticed he had a stick gotten caught in his pelt and without thinking she moved to him and grabbed it with her teeth, pulling slowly so she wouldn't pull any of Lightningfoot's pelt out. Darkeyes dropped the stick on the ground and then thought about what she had just done. "Er.... sorry Lightningfoot, I should of just told you it was there." She meowed, taking a good interest in her paws. Before the tom could say anything she began to pick her way up the tree to jump across branches, she didn't know why she was so embarrassed.

(I swear I did reply to this. That's weird that it didn't show up)
Lightningfoot bristled. He'd had a stick in his pelt? He had been paying a lot of attention to where he had been putting his paws - he must have not felt it. Lightningfoot opened his mouth to say thank-you, but Darkeyes had mumbled her reply and was already up a tree.
Lightningfoot's fur felt warm and prickly. Why was everything awkward between he and Darkeyes so suddenly? They were fine when they were at camp!
I mean, it's just one of the few times we've been alone together, Lightningfoot thought, confused. He began to follow Darkeyes, leaping from root to root as he was used to. She and I usually get along... why's everything so strange now?

((huh, well sorry to pester ya!))
Darkeyes jumped from branch to branch, her powerful hind legs easily getting her from tree to tree. "There is nothing better than tree jumping." Darkeyes purred, she felt more relaxed now and was determined not to make things weird for Lightningfoot anymore. She had never felt this awkward with any other cat before. "Stop acting like a moony-kit." She scolded herself quietly. She stopped on a thick branch and waited for the snowy tom. "I think we are here." She meowed, scanning the forest floor, sure enough there were a few squirrels sniffing around the roots. "I have never seen so many squirrels in one place." She admitted, her paws itching to jump into the undergrowth.

Lightningfoot skidded to a halt at the sight of all the squirrels and leaped behind a clump of bracken to disguise his white-as-snow pelt. His odd eyes went round at the sight of the squirrels - it was a feast, like StarClan had laid a banquet out before them!
Just beyond this bit of woods was the FlameClan border. Lightningfoot hoped that Darkeyes knew to be wary of it - they didn't need conflict with FlameClan over squirrels. He kept himself silent, not wanting to startle the squirrels - but he raised his tail, signaling Darkeyes to begin the hunt.

Darkeyes saw Lightningfoot's tail fly up and she gave the squirrels a quick look before picking a target and jumping onto it. She figured if she could hit one squirrel, one would run right into LIghtningfoot's paws. Quick as she could be she landed hard in the clearing, the squirrels panicked but Darkeyes was ready. With a flash she caught a squirrel by its neck, killing it instantly. Turning to chase another squirrel, Darkeyes hoped Lightningfoot had gotten a catch himself. Distracted, Darkeyes chased the squirrel past the boarder, she managed to grab it and turned towards where Lightningfoot was, her tail high in triumph, not aware of the danger that she was in.

Squirrels seemed to be flying everywhere. Lightningfoot caught one in his paws, and just as he was done delivering the killing blow, another was right in his paws. He caught another before leaping out of the bracken. Darkeyes was scattering the squirrels, but in such a way that she could catch some herself. Lightningfoot paused to admit to himself that what she was doing was smart.
And then he realized that Darkeyes had crossed the border.
"Darkeyes!" he called. "Get back here, now!"

Darkeyes just looked at him confused, the two squirrels dangling from her mouth. She padded towards him, not in any rush. She couldn't see any danger and her nose was filled with the smell of squirrel so she didn't notice the boarder scents. She dropped the two at Lightningfoot's paws, fluffed up and anxious from his call. "What? I got the squirrel." She meowed, confused. She scanned the undergrowth but it was just the two of them, and a lot of scattering squirrels. Darkeyes felt quite annoyed that the tom had interrupted her hunt, she could of caught another squirrel easy but they had all gone up trees and scattered into the forest for cover.

Lightningfoot bristled. "You went over the border!" he told her. He looked past her, eyes wide and searching. Had any cat seen her?
