Bushfire's jaws flooded with mouse-scent. It was close, so she placed every paw caarefully. She found it in the roots of a large tree. Dropping low, she crept up on the mouse as it chewed on an acorn. Bushfire leapt, her deft paws killing the mouse in one blow.
Bushfire buried the mouse at the base of the tree and moved on. With every pawstep she felt heat blast her face. Even with her lighter fur, she was still extremely hot. She hated the heat. Even with lesser prey, she enjoyed Leaf-Fall much more than Greenleaf. The prey was fatter, and the air was cooler.

Tail flicking a lot less eagerly than it had in the beginning, the black and white apprentice trotted on, constantly beelining to find paths that would make her traveling much easier. Despite being far too young to go out on her own, she had originally left camp in hopes that she would catch a few things all by herself. Yet, so far, she hadn't done anything of the sort, as the very few prey she had seen were far too high for her to go after. When she combined this with the heat that caused her to move to and fro, Fleapaw was now wishing that something would happen so that she could return to camp, satisfied with her semi-long trip.
Much to Fleapaw's displeasure, she was forced to go on for quite a while. This time, however, she didn't spot a lick of prey, and was focused on keeping herself cool more than anything else. She paused, turning around to wonder if she'd be better off trying again tomorrow.
Freezing, Fleapaw did a double take, swearing that she saw some kind of golden fur through the numerous branches that surrounded her. She carefully crept forward, hoping to get another peek at it. It had looked like a squirrel, but then again, it appeared to be brighter than any other squirrel she had seen before. Or maybe it had been some kind of finch?..
Breaking out of her thoughts, Fleapaw padded onward once more, but with a quicker pace. She blindly tried to follow it-- stopping immediately when she caught sight of the very same thing she had seen before! Excited, the apprentice ducked under some bracken, peering through it to finally figure out just what this thing was. Fleapaw couldn't help but blink in surprise when she realized that it wasn't prey at all.
Bursting through the foliage, Fleapaw bounded after Bushfire. "Hi!" she mewed politely, trying her best to keep up with her. "What are you doing out here?"
