Squirrelstar leaped onto a rocky crag, nimble as she was when she was an apprentice. The sun's heat was beginning to beat down on the rocks, shredding the mist below. Behind her was Nightflight, the MountainClan queen - a capable warrior, but one who had been out of practice for some time.
Squirrelstar glanced back, making sure that Nightflight was keeping up.
"Are you doing all right?" Squirrelstar wondered. Sometimes it was hard to start leaping onto the mountainous rocks when muscles were out of practice.

Nightflight nodded her head. "I'm sorry if i'm keeping you down," she apolizged. "It's just that I'm a bit rusty." SHe then leaped down to Squrrielstar. She glanced around, taking in her misty surrondings. [iGood thing the sun's coming out,[/i] She thought.

Squirrelstar looked out over the mountains. "I'd rather you be rusty and careful instead of reckless and dead," she meowed.
"There ought to be prey that way," Squirrelstar offered, gesturing with a paw rather than her stump of a tail. "I've heard reports from Snowfoot about outsiders in the area, though - we ought to keep a look out."

Nightflight nodded her head. "Outsiders are more than annoying. They think they could could just take all of the mountains to themselves." Nightflight muttered, her tail twitching."They never experienced the mountains before. They don't know how to survive up here."

Squirrelstar nodded in agreement. "Selfish fools, that's all they are," she growled. She'd seen her share of outsiders come try and take what wasn't theirs, only to have the territory turn on them and end their so-called reign.
"Either way," she said, "it's best to keep an eye out for them. Snowfoot says they've been ranging further than before - one even had the gall to attack one of our own."

(Sorry for being so late ) Nightflight's tail lashed as she was reminded of the attack. "That better be the last of them." Nightflight hissed. "Now let's get back to hunting." She mewed, heading towards the direction Squirrelstar gestured.

((It's all right )) Squirrelstar nodded in agreement. Strangers in their land were always a threat - they didn't belong here. She followed Nightflight, subconsciously making sure that the queen wasn't having difficulty crossing the rocks. She didn't want to lose a friend to the sharp stones and sheer drops.

Nightflight carefully placed her paws on whatever she landed on. She let out a sigh of relief as she landed on smoother ground after she crossed the rocks. She flicked her ears as she tasted the air for prey. Her ears pricked as she smelled a rabbit. She waited for Squirrelstar to join her before going after it.

Squirrelstar landed on a rock near Nightflight, her stumpy tail low. She tasted rabbit in the air, and with a glance at Nightflight she realized that the queen wanted to have a go at catching it.
"It's been a while," Squirrelstar warned as quietly as she dared. "Be careful." Many an apprentice had sprained or broken a limb trying to chase rabbits over the rocks.

Nightflight nodded her head. "I know, Squirrelstar." She mewed quietly as she padded a bit more foward before going into the hunting position. The rabbit scent was strong now, and she noticed the tiny creature scuffling about near a bush. She checked the wind, and it was blowing towards her. She crouched down and made sure her tail was slightly raised off the ground. She then lunged foward, as quiet as she could be each pawstep.
Then the rabbit raised it head as started to dart away. Nightflight pelted after it, her eyes locked onto the rabbit. Just before she had it, it darted into a hole. "Foxdung!" She cursed. She then came padding back over to Squirrelstar, emptypawed. "I'm sorry for cussing," She mewed. "I thought I had it."
