Rainfall watched Lightingfoot closely, following his gaze. They sighed in relief at the retreating backs of OceanClan warriors. Rainfall had fought OceanClan before- they'd won their personal fight, but their patrol had been sent running. Seeing their clanmates relaxing, Rainfall decided to take a little breather of their own. They bent down into a stream, flicking water over their face with their paws.
"I heard some prey on the way up... squirrels, I think," they mewed conversationally. They straightened up from the stream, shaking their head to clear it of moisture. With this area checked, it was probably time to move on, but they wanted to wait for the others.

Bushfire sniffed disdainfully at the water. Honestly, Oceanclan should change their name to Fishclan.
'Each to his own,'she thought.
She padded back towards camp, sniffing for any signs of prey.

Lightningfoot watched the OceanClan patrol turn into dots on the horizon. Then, he turned back, grateful to put the delta and its swift-moving waters behind him. He opened his jaws to scent for prey, only to be taken aback by a smell that made his whiskers curl.
"Ugh!" he complained. "Do you smell that?"

Rainfall blithely sniffed the air. It couldn't be that bad, could it? Seconds later, they screwed up their face in disgust. Wow, they were wrong. The border markings were right ahead, and they were overpowering. "Oh, I smell it, for sure," they mewed, voice heavy with regret and disgust. The mix of heat and the bad smell was making them a little dizzy. They strode a few paces away, until they smelled the forest instead of dead fish and salt. "I don't know how OceanClan does it... it's better over here, at least."

Lightningfoot nodded in agreement. It had been a while since he'd smelled a hint of the OceanClan scent marker - it was about as foul as fox-scent!
With the wind changed to blow that foulness in this direction, who knows if we'll find any prey over here! He thought grimly. He glanced off into the forest. They'd just have to try further inland.
