For a heartbeat, Fleapaw wondered if she was blowing this out of proportion. Rainfall wasn't concerned about her fault, so why should she be doing the opposite?
With that thought, the apprentice felt at least a little more confident. Although she was still embarrassed about it, she seemed to be the only one that cared. It was just a tiny mistake, she told herself, barely hearing what Rainfall had said next.
"Yeah!" Fleapaw mewed enthusiastically, reforming her smile. But, this time, it was real.
(Short because I can't really think of anything atm.)

Foxstar purred. "Great, let's get started then." He mewed, getting up from where he was sitting. "I want to see how you two handle battling at the moment." He flicked his tail towards Fleapaw and Dovepaw. "I want you two to spar. And keep your claws sheated." He then padded over next to Rianfall, sitting down nest to them.
"I'm just seeing if they know the basics of battling at least." He explained to Rainfall.

Spar? With Fleapaw? Dovepaw thought, her eyes round. She hopped to her paws. I'll do it! I'll do it and I'll be great!
Dovepaw dropped to a crouch. "I hope you're ready!" she growled, fluffing out her pelt as much as possible. She couldn't help but let her flanks wiggle. This was so exciting!

Rainfall smiled broadly back at Fleapaw. She was a scattered thing, but berating her would do no good. Showing up and being ready was a good place to start.
Foxstar seemed to know what he wanted to see out of the two apprentices. Rainfall had no objections. With FlameClan and MountainClan in the valley, things could become hostile at any moment. They didn't want the tiny apprentice to be hurt in a sudden fight, and they knew Dovepaw wouldn't be too rough with her.
"That's fine." They mewed agreeably. They had done some basic training with Fleapaw before, but they weren't sure how much she remembered. This would be a good opportunity to gauge how much she'd learned, and how to proceed. Dovepaw seemed excited. They hoped Fleapaw would be as eager as Dovepaw seemed.

Fleapaw blinked in surprise. She had guessed that they would do battle training, but a fight with Dovepaw was a completely different idea!
Moving a few pawsteps closer to Dovepaw and copying what she had done -- minus the fur and flank part -- Fleapaw tried making the most menacing look she could muster. Her mind was fluttering with ideas; most of them relying on Dovepaw to attack first.

Dovepaw couldn't hold in her excitement any longer. Her back legs were charged full of energy, and she leaped at Fleapaw, her face contorted into her best warrior expression.
((... I can just imagine a gray cotton ball flying through the air))

Fleapaw, with wide eyes, hadn't expected this, leading to her being frozen in place and easily toppled over by Dovepaw. She barely managed to recollect herself, putting all her former ideas to waste by aiming a blow for Dovepaw's side.

Dovepaw took the blow with shock. Ow! she thought, tumbling onto her side. Even without claws, that hurts! She hadn't expected that.
Dovepaw scrabbled to her paws and kicked up dust as she lunged at Fleapaw. She aimed for Fleapaw's face, but her blow ended up attempting to connect near the shoulder.

Seeing her move work made Fleapaw feel giddy, but she forced herself to stay alert. This time, she promised herself that she would be ready for Dovepaw's next move.
Sure enough, Dovepaw was going for her again, but, despite how ready Fleapaw had been, she still couldn't think quick enough. By the time Fleapaw had an idea, it was too late for her to sidestep, and Dovepaw's paw collided somewhere around her shoulder.
Flinching backwards a few pawsteps from both pain and fear of getting hit again, Fleapaw desperately searched for her next maneuver. But, it was to no avail, as by doing so she left herself open to another attack.
Fleapaw wasn't used to forcing herself to work like this; it was only making her stray away from her usual thought process. Anything she came up with was immediately dismissed, as Fleapaw didn't want to make any mistakes nor did she want to waste time by putting something into consideration.

Dovepaw turned on her paws to face Fleapaw. Her eyes brightened with satisfaction - was she actually fighting? Was Fleapaw really on the run?
Wiggling her haunches, Dovepaw leaped into the air again, aiming to tackle Fleapaw and pin her with all the might she had in her fluffy body.
