Darkeyes flicked her tail in agreement with the snowy warrior, but couldn't help but wish she could offer him more support. "Sorry I can't find you what you need Lightningfoot." Darkeyes meowed, picking her way through the forest. "But if there is anything you need, please let me know." She meowed, "And I agree with you, I could never see myself being solely responsible for so many cats, if anything ever happened, I don't think I would be able to forgive myself." She admitted, her fur feeling hot. "I don't even think I'm cut out to be a mentor." Darkeyes's eyes went wide, she hadn't meant to say it, but it was out now.

Lightningfoot blinked at her.
"Don't be ridiculous!" he insisted. "You'd make a great mentor - it's really not so hard as it seems." Of course, his mentorship had been made harder thanks to Batpaw's injury - but the likelihood of that happening to one of Darkeyes' apprentices was slim. He flicked his tail.
"You stop doubting yourself so much, Darkeyes," Lightningfoot said. "You'd make a good mentor, and when you do get an apprentice they'll be lucky to have a great, sharp-eyed cat like you." Immediately he wished he hadn't been so overly complimentary - he hadn't intended to sound like a moony rabbit! His pelt burned a little, and he focused a little too intently on jumping to the next root to compensate.

Darkeyes flicked her tail in surprise, she hadn't thought the warrior would be so sure of her. Her pelt felt hot but she didn't know why. "Thanks Lightningfoot." She purred, but in her distraction her foot caught on a root and she fell into the dirt. "Fox-dung!" She cursed, now really embarrassed. "Good thing it's just us here." She meowed, not daring to look at the tom. "I would have never lived that down." Darkeyes stood up and shook her pelt free of the dust and dirt it had now collected. "Way to impress him Darkeyes." She thought, she looked up to the tom even though he was only a few moons older than her. "But thanks for the confidence Lighningfoot, hopefully it will happen soon." She meowed, giving her a pelt a few rough licks to hide her embarrassment.

Lightningfoot chuckled, his pelt still feeling warm. "Don't worry - I'm sure Foxstar has the perfect apprentice in mind."
He flicked an ear. "Is your paw all right? Roots can be nasty..."

Darkeyes sighed, hoping that the tom was right. "I hope so." She muttered, more to herself than anyone else. Darkeyes gave her chest fur a few more embarrassed licks and nodded at Lightningfoot. "Yeah I am fine, thanks for asking." She meowed and winced. "Could you sound more stuck up?" Darkeyes thought, trying to figure out how what to say next.

Lightningfoot flicked his ear. He'd hoped he hadn't trodden on her toes by asking - but he didn't want to see a Clanmate hurt. Awkwardly, he flicked his tail and mewed, "We... ought to keep moving."
He leaped to the next root. "Come on; we're almost there."

"Nice Darkeyes, this is going great." She thought bitterly as she followed him across the roots. She began to see little sparks of movement and she stiffened, instinct told her there was prey near-by. "Lightningfoot freeze." She muttered, scanning the undergrowth. She spotted a mouse sniffing at the base of a tree, and stopped to make sure everything was going to go her way. Darkeyes flicked her tail at LIghtningfoot, signaling that she was going to go after the mouse. She stepped carefully through the undergrowth, trying not to make sure she wouldn't step on anything. Moving swiftly she killed the mouse with one swift bite. Darkeyes turned back to Lightningfoot with the mouse in her mouth, golden eyes glowing with excitement.

Lightningfoot froze, perched upon his tree root with claws digging into the bark. He'd been just about to jump when he'd heard Darkeyes' warning. Blinking his odd-eyes at her, he crouched low, pressing his white fur against the dark bark. He could see the mouse flitting through the undergrowth.
When Darkeyes made her kill, Lightningfoot had almost missed it. He rose and flicked his tail in admiration. "Amazing!" he purred. "Good job."

Darkeyes looked at tom with her glowing golden eyes. She nodded her appreciation, put the mouse down, and scooped leaves over it so they could pick it up later. "Thanks Lightningfoot." Darkeyes purred, she felt relaxed and happy, this was her element. Her fur also felt warm from the tom's praise but she was trying hard to ignore that. Darkeyes pricked her ears, more scuttling was around and luckily hadn't heard the two warriors. Darkeyes could tell from the smell it was a squirrel and she nodded to LIghtningfoot. "You go ahead, can you see where it is?" She whispered so she wouldn't alert the prey.

Lightningfoot twitched his whiskers. "Of course!" he purred. "You're not the only one with good eyesight."
He located the squirrel. It was plumply sitting in the crook of a branch, nibbling at a seed. Lightningfoto smirked. Easy prey.
He launched himself up the tree, pulling himself up with ease. He balanced himself on the sturdiest branch, judging the distance between himself and the squirrel. Just a few hops, and he would be there.
Lightningfoot leaped from branch to branch, unconsciously making a show of flexing his muscles and skill. When he came upon the squirrel, the last thing it ever saw was the white fluff of Lightningfoot's paws. Lightningfoot's claws took care of the rest.
He held up his kill, claws buried in the still-wobbling branch, tail held up proudly.
