Darkeyes padded out of the camp and into the woods, already feeling more and more relaxed. She loved the woods and the silence that came with it. The camp could get crowded and noisy and Darkeyes could get overwhelmed. She paused among the tree line, scanning the roots for any movement but knew she would find nothing. Prey rarely was this close to camp, she would have to take a good walk to find anything good. Darkeyes turned and scanned the camp for her hunting partner, Lightningfoot promised her that they would go hunting today and Darkeyes's paws were itching to get started. "Hurry up Lightningfoot!" She called out, her voice teasing, "By the time we get going all the prey will have died from old age!"

Lightningfoot chuckled, pushing his way through the brambles and ferns. "I'm coming!" he huffed. "I just didn't want to leave half my pelt behind, that's all!"
The earth was soft beneath his paws. Hunting had been good for ForestClan this greenleaf - the queens and kits and elders were plump and happy, and there was always plenty of fresh-kill to go around. It may have seemed like StarClan had blessed the woods with prey but cats still had to hunt for that prey - it wouldn't come leaping into their mouths.
He caught up with Darkeyes easily. "Where should we go?" he asked.

((eep didn't see this))
Darkeyes purred as the tom got close to her. Her paws were itching to get moving and it was a gorgeous day to be out of camp. Darkeyes scanned the brambles for any sign of prey or tracks but she couldn't see anything. "Well I heard the apprentices talking about how north of camp there are a ton of squirrels." Darkeyes meowed, looking at the tom with her golden eyes. "I wouldn't mind going after them but it's up to you." She meowed, "I know your.... um... your pelt can sometimes be challenging but there is a ton of bushes and shadows that you can hide in." Darkeyes meowed, her fur hot with embarrassment. "Nice mouse-brain." She thought, staring at her paws. She really hoped she didn't offend the snowy tom.

Lightningfoot chuckled. "I've caught plenty of squirrels with this pelt of mine, thank you very much," he purred. "North sounds fine." It would take them close to the FlameClan border, but there was nothing wrong with that - so long as they didn't cross they could grab all the squirrels they wanted.
He hopped onto a tree root, mapping out the route in his mind. "Let's get going," he meowed.

Darkeyes purred, extremely glad Lightningfoot had developed a thicker pelt around the color of his fur. She took off, keeping at a steady pace so she could maneuver around the brambles and roots that were famous for tripping up cats. She pushed off a root, her powerful legs getting her clear of some of the chaos of the forest floor and she turned around to wait for him. "So how's everything been?" She meowed, not one for silence. "I'm glad Batpaw is finally better." Darkeyes shuddered, she couldn't even imagine losing on of her legs and she admired both the apprentice and the mentor for the challenging few moons it would be for both of them.

Lightningfoot leaped from root to root, half his mind on his paws. Still, he could pay attention to Darkeyes well enough. "Batpaw's doing fine," he replied crisply. "I'm developing new techniques with him so that he can hunt and fight about as well as the rest of us. His accident was rough... and some part of me still blames myself for it. He's been more than willing to voice his opinion on what works and what doesn't."
He made a great leap towards another root, landing well. "He won't be able to climb as well, but he'll manage," Lightningfoot added.
"As for me," Lightningfoot went on, "I don't know. I've just been feeling... lost lately."

Darkeyes looked at the white tom shocked. "Lightningfoot that accident was none of your fault." She meowed, suddenly feeling angry and protective. "It could of happened to any cat!" She meowed, and gave her ruffled fur a few licks to calm herself down. "Plus you saved him, thank StarClan you were able to. Not many cats could of done what you did Lightningfoot, you stood up to of by yourself... that takes bravery." She meowed, moving through the undergrowth again. The last comment Lightningfoot made confused her, the tom always seemed so confident in himself. "What do you mean?" Darkeyes asked, not wanting to sound too curious or prying.

Lightningfoot knew it hadn't been his fault - but he couldn't help but still feel a little responsibility for what had happened to Batpaw.
But still Darkeyes was curious. He found himself talking, feeling more comfortable around the she-cat than he did most of the other warriors in the Clan. "Ever since my mother died I've just been feeling like something is missing," Lightningfoot explained. "Not her, though - of course she's 'missing', but she's always near me in some ways. I just feel like maybe she was keeping something from me. Something important."

Darkeyes tipped her head, thinking about what Lightningfoot was saying. "You have a hole where something used to be, family, so of course you feel a little empty. Trust me I wasn't close with my parents and I still grieve for them." She admitted. "As for what she could have been hiding from you... That I do not have an answer." Darkeyes admitted. She hadn't known Roseberry well, and StarClan knows who the father was so Darkeyes was a little lost. "I wish there was an easier way to speak with our warrior ancestor." She muttered, loud enough for LIghtningfoot to hear. "I know I sound like a kit but sometimes it seems unfair that only medicine cats and sometimes leaders get to talk to StarClan." She felt guilty and awkward for saying it, like she had stepped over a boundry she hadn't known was there, but Darkeyes did feel this way.

Lightningfoot nodded in agreement. "Talking with her would definitely ease my mind," he meowed. "And maybe she could tell me what I want to know - but I've never had a strong connection to StarClan, and my destiny wasn't to be leader or medicine cat. I'm glad for that - I'd hate to be cooped up, never hunting or fighting."
He flicked his tail, crossing a few more roots before he spoke again. "If StarClan wants to speak with a warrior, I'm sure they would," he said. "It's not our place to question them."
