Squirrelstar sat on the Pale Stone, looking down at her warriors. She was doing her best to keep the fur on her hackles from bristling.
She took a deep breath before she announced, "I'm glad you all could make it - this is an important meeting. Earlier today Nightflight and I were taking a walk around the territory. We found a dead fox in our territory, and after looking over the scene we found evidence of wolf tracks."
She shifted on her paws. "I'd like you all to stay calm - wolves have been in our territory before. They are no doubt a threat but when caution is taken no one will get hurt. We must assess this threat, find out if this wolf is alone, and deal with it accordingly. Until then kits are not allowed outside camp, and apprentices do not go out without mentors. Warriors will travel in larger groups, and there will be at least two warriors on watch every night in camp and one here, on the Pale Stone. If the wolf comes near we will retreat further into the camp, into the escape tunnels hidden in the nursery."
Squirrelstar scanned the rocky clearing. "Any reports of the wolf's whereabouts must be given to myself or Snowfoot," she meowed. "I want a patrol to accompany Raventail as he goes to investigate the cause of the fox's death, and possibly why the wolf didn't stay to eat the kill. Volunteers?"

Barleypaw sat and listened respectfully, and as he listened his fur started to lift up and he crouched back fearfully. His ears flattened a bit, and he shifted on his paws uncomfortably.

Silvertail's ears pricked as she heard the word 'wolf'. The last time she heard that word was in elder's tales when she was a kit. The elders would described them worse than badgers, worse than foxes, worse than dogs even. A shiver ran down her spine. She was scared at the very least, but she wanted to help her clan. Her wounds that she got from that blasted rouge healed only a couple of days ago, but she wanted to help.
"I'll help!" Silvertail called out, flicking her tail.

Alderpaw wriggled a bit, staring up at his mentor. Although the idea of a wolf on their territory was frightening, he couldn't help but get excited at the idea of being on the patrol. He jumped up.
"Are apprentices allowed to go?" He asked, hoping that Squirrelstar would let him on the patrol.

Raventail crouched outside his den as he listened to Squirrelstar's report. A mixture of annoyance and apprehension at having to deal with wolves now made the fur on his shoulders bristle. He sat up when his leader announced that he would be going to investigate the dead fox. He nodded slightly, but didn't say anything as he waited for his Clanmates to volunteer to escort him. The black tom's broken tail twitched back and forth and he padded forward to wait closer to the group.

Squirrelstar admired her apprentice's eagerness, but she shook her head. "No," she meowed. "The wolf may come back - I want skilled cats protecting Raventail as he investigates. No apprentices."

Alderpaw sat back down, his tail drooping and his ears down. Although he was disappointed he focused back on the meeting, wanting to hear the rest of the plan.

Barleypaw glanced at Raventail, hoping he would be okay. He looked down at himself, crouched and bristling, and straightened up, trying to look brave.

Wrenstorm's ears flattened briefly at the mention of a wolf. Fighting wild animals had always filled her with a strange mixture of anger, exhilaration and terror, something that she didn't care to experience. Give her a cat to fight and she'd do so gladly, but the thought of possibly facing a wolf made the fur lift down her spine.
Still, someone had to protect the medicine cat, and she'd be damned if she let a wolf menace her Clan. With a brisk shake of her pelt, she straightened up and meowed, "I'll go."

Crowtail shuddered. Wolves. They were big, and fast on top of that. She trusted Squirrelstar. Her leader was a wily cat. She had to be to have lead MountainClan well for so long. But wolves always spelled trouble.
Already, others around her were volunteering. Maybe she should? It was her warrior duty to protect and serve her clan. Her mind briefly flashed to little Doepaw. She knew her young apprentice would be terribly stifled, and while these wolves were about, no one was safe. Especially not impulsive apprentices.
"I volunteer." She said resolutely. No wolf was going to stop her from doing her work, no matter how big and dangerous it was. If Squirrelstar didn't want her to go, for whatever reason, she most definitely would taking sentry duty. She was a fast cat- she'd be able to stay out of its jaws long enough to warn the camp.
