Lightningfoot settled himself down in the soft grass of the clearing. It had been a long day of patrolling and hunting, and the sun was setting. As the leaves turned red-orange around him, he placed his meal - two plump mice he had been looking forward to all day - between his paws.
His stomach growled with anticipation... but eating alone wasn't very fun. He looked up and saw other warriors around the fresh-kill pile, grabbing their supper. Perhaps one of them would join him?
Note: This is just a small discussion thread - takes place after the Gathering.

Darkeyes stalked back into camp, her eyes down and she placed a vole onto the fresh kill pile and sighed. Things had been... weird since the Gathering and Darkeyes just wanted to move past it. She wasn't very hungry but she spotted Lightningfoot settling down with two mice and she decided to join him. "Hey Lightningfoot." She greeted him, settling down beside him to give her pelt a good grooming. Her fur had caught some leaves and twigs and she had to get them out before they were really caught in her fur.

Lightningfoot was grateful for her company - even if Darkeyes looked down. He supposed that the Gathering might still be bothering her. It was certainly bothering everyone else - even Lightningfoot. Still, even if it couldn't be avoided he would rather not have their conversation start with the Gathering.
He blinked, spotting her grooming. If he weren't so hungry, he would help - but since he was busy devouring one of his mice, he offered between bites, "You missed a leaf behind your ear."

Darkeyes pawed a clump behind her ear and was able to free the leaf. "Thanks Lightningfoot." She purred, trying not to seem like such a grump today. "How was your day today? You seemed to get really busy." She commented, her yellow eyes watching Lightningfoot eat his mice. "You surely are hungry!" She joked, trying to sound more chipper.

Lightningfoot chuckled.
"I think Honeyflower has it out for me," he admitted, smirking. "She had me do dawn patrol and evening patrol, and hunting in between!" He took a deep breath, and then sighed. Smiling, he added, "I think this is the first time I've gotten to rest my paws - of course I'm hungry!"

Darkeyes let out a small chuckle, Foxstar and Honeyflower had kept the Clan really busy, border patrols had been doubled, especially around the FlameClan border. "Don't ruin yourself into the ground." She meowed, not trying to sound so concerned. She paused, giving herself a few quick chest licks to finish her grooming. "At least the heat has been better!"

Lightningfoot nodded in agreement. "I'll try," he replied.
At her comment about the heat, he had to flick his ear in agreement. He meowed, "I'm glad leaf-fall's on it's way. Some of the leaves are already changing! Maybe when the heat goes away FlameClan will calm down."

"Doubt it." Darkeyes meowed bitterly and sighed, her tail flickering. "Sorry Lightningfoot. I've been such a grump lately. Buzzardstar just got under my fur that is all." She shuffled her paws and gave Lightningfoot a grin. "But I told my story and that is all I can ask for." Dying for a change in convo she flicked her tail towards where Batpaw was sitting with the other apprentices. "How's Batpaw doing? He seems to be a lot stronger."

Lightningfoot flicked his tail at the mention of his apprentice. "Definitely," he meowed, understanding that she would want to change the subject. "I worry, though, that he's going to get discouraged seeing things that other cats can do that he can't do so well. He might have to train longer than a normal apprentice, that's for sure."

"Poor Batpaw." Darkeyes muttered. shivering at the thought of her own leg being torn off. "He's so brave. I don't think I would be able to ever go near the forest again, much less be climbing trees and training to be a full warrior... He should be glad he has such a great mentor." Darkeyes teased, her yellow eyes glowing with amusement.
