Mudpath breathed in the fresh morning breeze. The salty tang of the water was comforting, stirring her long fur. Leaf-fall was coming, and the world was finally starting to cool down - ironic, since the last Gathering had flamed up the pelts of ForestClan and FlameClan so.
Still, it was none of her business. Dawn was breaking, and the patrol needed to head out for the MountainClan border. She stretched on her toes, and looked to the patrol's leader.
"I'm ready to go whenever," she reported.

Foggystar made his way over a heap of soft sand and stopped to the left of the warrior, making sure he shook the dust out of his fur a good distance away so Mudpath wouldn't get dirty. "Very well. Let's get going, before the day gets away from us," he replied, scanning the horizon of the ocean, little glints of light reflecting off the waves as sunlight began to peek out from behind the mountains.
Over the past few weeks the tom had started to go out on patrols more and more often. The events of the Gathering had made him antsy, and patrolling the borders was about all he could do to calm his nerves. He knew he shouldn't be so worried, seeing how he wasn't a part of the feuding; that was ForestClan's and FlameClan's business. But he couldn't help himself. Still, as long as he knew OceanClan's territory was safe, he could relax a little.

Silverstorm followed Foggystar and Mudpath out of the camp, saying nothing, she had hid her feelings well the past couple days. Silverstorm had a strange feeling about the other Clans recently, two Gatherings had come and gone and the Clans were more hostile then ever. "StarClan keep them away from my Clan." She thought silently, her fur bristling a bit at the thought but she tried to relax herself. It was a gorgeous day and there was nothing she could do to stop ForestClan and FlameClan from clawing at each other's throats. She was glad to get out, Silverstorm felt cooped up in camp, never really wanting to stay put for too long. She studied her leader carefully, he had been keeping himself busy, much like Silverstorm, and she figured it was for the same reasons.

Mudpath blinked at the assembling patrol. She glanced at Foggystar. "Is that everyone?" she asked, swishing her fluffy tail. If only Troutpaw had been chosen to come, she thought passingly. He's falling behind in his training enough as it is, that lazy lump!

"Looks like it. Ready?" he said, tipping his head to Silverstorm as she approached. It wasn't a huge patrol, but three cats would probably be enough. If they ran into trouble, they could hold their ground and defend themselves, unless they were particularly unlucky today.

Mudpath nodded. "Ready," she replied. Her paws were itching to get moving. At least they were looking at the MountainClan border - the only reason there would be trouble with them is if they crossed on accident. It would probably be a quiet patrol.

"Let's get moving." Silverstorm agreed, her fluffy tail twitching anxiously, there was no reason to be worried about what they would encounter but Silverstorm wondered what the three would talk about, after what had been happening the last couple moons it was hard to know anything but passing rumors spread around the queens and apprentices of each Clan. Silverstorm wondered how much she had heard had been fact or fiction, especially with such high tensions.

Once everyone had voice their approval, Foggystar flicked his tail and set off at a brisk but steady pace. As they crept from away from the sandy shores and over into the grassy fields of their inland territory, he kept his ears pricked. The closer they got to the MountainClan border, the more watchful they would have to be. His gaze traveled to the edge of his vision to where Mudpath and Silverstorm were. The group wasn't a very talkative bunch today, so their silence was only broken by the distant crashing of waves and the hiss of the tall grasses blowing in the wind. Foggystar felt inclined to start a conversation, but nothing interesting was coming to mind; it was clear the two were just as nervous as him about the possibility of running into trouble, so it didn't seem right to draw their focus off of staying alert for danger.

Mudpath trotted along the plain, just behind Silverstorm and Foggystar. She kept her tail high as they headed for the stream that made the most distinctive border between MountainClan and OceanClan. She kept her tufted ears pricked, and she couldn't help but notice that her Clanmates had tense muscles.
A dragonfly would scare us, the way we are right now, Mudpath thought idly. She sighed quietly. Greenleaf officially makes cats' heads funny!

Silverstorm paused as they neared the border, she opened her mouth to find the scents of the border and was surprised to find them mostly stale. "That's weird." She muttered, staring over to MountainClan territory. "With the way Squirrelstar has been acting like every Clan has been stealing kits from them you would think she would have doubled patrols along the borders." Her tail twitched with confusion but she shook out her pelt, not wanting to show her worry any more than she already had. Silverstorm turned back to Foggystar, titling her head in question. "Do you want us to renew the border scents?" She asked her leader.
