Crowtail slunk down the rocky mountainside. Sunset wasn't far off, but there was a little light left for now.
She'd invited a few others to accompany her on a hunting patrol. She found herself staying in camp more than she would like, with the omnipresent threat of the wolf family. She glanced around at the cats nearby. It was a bother finding enough cats for there to be relative safety- but that was no excuse! They all needed to eat, didn't they?
She paused, making sure that all the cats that had volunteered were still with her. She wouldn't presume to have authority over other cats, but someone had to be responsible if anyone was lost...

Wolfheart padded down the slope after Crowtail, conscious of where she put her paws. Crowtail was moons her senior, and Wolfheart just couldn't say no when asked if she wanted to go hunting. It had been a long time since she'd hunted at this hour - it posed a risk to hunt in the twilight, when the sunset was bright and the world was dark.
She hoped the camp would be alright without them - but Squirrelstar was on watch tonight, sitting on the Pale Stone like a sentinel. Not only that, but there were others watching the camp. MountainClan would be safe. Wolfheart continued after Crowtail, stopping when she did. The rest of the patrol was catching up, Wolfheart could hear the stones scattering behind her.
"So, where are we hunting?" Wolfheart asked. All warriors were equal in MountainClan, but older warriors still had that undeniable air of experience. She added awkwardly, "I don't think anyone's gone near the gorge by FlameClan territory in a while... but that would be bad in this light."

Crowtail flicked an ear at Wolfheart's words. Still walking, she said, "Eh, somewhere close to camp. I was thinking we'd stay at the top of the slope, to have a good view if anything moves below. Unless we're downwind to the slope..."
Leading the group still, she continued. "The gorge is farther from camp than I'd like- this is just a quick trip." She glanced back again. Everyone was still with her. Soon, camp was out of sight, but only just. The group stood in a small, scraggly copse of trees at the top of a long bare slope, composed of dirt, rocks, pebbles and sparse bushes and grass patches.
"This is what I had in mind." She mewed, gesturing at the area with her tail. It was a more stable part of the territory. Any one of them could easily ambush anything that stirred below.

Wolfheart surveyed the area. It would be good for hunting - she suddenly regretted mentioning the gorge idea. Instead of suggesting anything more, she flicked her tail and waited for Crowtail to give out the orders. The other members of the patrol were falling in behind them.
She glanced back. Camp was not too far off, but just out of sight. Prey would most likely be found here, resting in the cool night-shade, thinking they were safe from predators.
