Darkeyes peered out into the forest, waiting patiently for Lightningfoot to come and join her. Her paws tingled with excitement and she fought to keep herself calm. "Don't be such a mouse-brain!" She scolded herself, giving her pelt a few licks. "You need to calm down or this is going to end poorly." Darkeyes fought the urge to yowl down to Lightningfoot and tell him to hurry up, she hadn't been waiting for that long and the day was young, they didn't have to rush. It was a gorgeous day and the leaves were beginning to fall all over the forest, it was Darkeyes' favorite time of the year, and she although she wasn't a huge fan of the cold, prey was preparing for leaf-bare too and most of the prey was fat and juicy. Her tail twitched impatiently as she glanced back at the opening of camp. "Where is he?" She wondered, hoping the snowy tom didn't forget they were going hunting.

Lightningfoot stepped out of camp. It had taken a moment to convince Batpaw that he ought to take care of the dens and other duties that needed to be done around camp. He stretched, feeling the sunshine on his snowy pelt as his muscles rippled beneath his fur.
Things are going well, despite the FlameClan problems, he thought. Today is going to be a good day for hunting.
Lightningfoot flicked his tail and straightened his spine. Darkeyes was nearby, and his tail lifted when he spotted her in the undergrowth. He hoped he hadn't kept her waiting.
"Ready to go?" he asked, approaching.

Darkeyes eyes lit up as she watched the snowy tom pad out of the camp. "Yes." She meowed, her tail twitching with excitement, she hoped they could find some decent prey. Darkeyes had promised Honeyflower they would come back with prey without crossing the border. She stood up and stretched out her hind legs, they had already grown stiff from waiting and she didn't want to trip over herself running after prey. "Where do you want to go?" She asked, peering at the tom with interest.

"Probably shouldn't get near FlameClan territory," Lightningfoot mewed. "I'm sure we can find something near the OceanClan border. Lots of little animals going to a drink around this time of day."
He started off in that direction, the sound of the stream - the only water in ForestClan territory that wasn't beyond their borders or the sea - in his ears. It would lead them to OceanClan territory.
"We should hurry though, before an OceanClan patrol scares off the prey with their fishy smell," he chuckled.

Darkeyes let out a laugh when Lightningfoot mentioned FlameClan, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Don't worry, I'm paying attention this time." She joked, following Lightningfoot towards the opposite border. "But heading in the other direction sounds like the right idea." Darkeyes let small shudder at the thought of running into an annoyed OceanClan patrol. "Do they know they smell like they have been rotting for weeks?" She complained, her eyes glinting with amusement.

"I don't know how a cat can go around stinking like that and not notice," Lightningfoot chuckled.
The walk through the woods was calming. Birds chirped, cicadas buzzed, and other sounds of nature surrounded the two as they padded along the trails, the stream always within earshot. The trees were beginning to thin out, and the smell of water was in the air. The grass shot up around their paws, strong and green and healthy. The faint fishy odor of OceanClan lingered.
"Seems like a patrol just went by," Lightningfoot mewed. "We're good to go!"

Darkeyes gave a good sniff, letting the order linger in her scent glands. She wrinkled her nose but made sure to get a good sniff, she wasn't crossing the border on this hunt! She took in the surrounding, admiring how gorgeous the day was and how calm everything seemed to be. It was a good day to be out with somecat that she cared about. Darkeyes's ears pricked as she listened for any sounds of prey nearby. "We should head a little ways from the border." Darkeyes meowed, not being able to concentrate with the OceanClan scent swimming in her head. "No prey is going to be stupid enough to be sniffing this close to where cats have laid down scent markers." She commented, scanning the tree-line.

Lightningfoot nodded in agreement. He glanced about, spotting a clump of trees that looked promising. "Let's try over there," he suggested. "Plenty of undergrowth for something to hide in!"
He led the way with a purr rumbling in his chest. He couldn't feel much happier than he was now - being with Darkeyes made him forget all the little things that normally stressed him out. The leaves rustled in the breeze and Lightningfoot could feel the stirrings of small furry creatures in the undergrowth.

"Good spot!" She purred, padding over the the place he pointed out. It was a perfect place to hunt, right in ForestClan warriors element. Plenty of places to creep up and grab prey, and already Darkeyes could hear the small scuffling of some type of prey. The smell told her it was a vole and already Darkeyes' mouth began to water. Flicking her tail at Lightningfoot to stay quiet, she crept through the undergrowth, not making a sound. She paused, watching the vole scuffle around and then she leaped for it. With a quick nip she managed to kill the now-fresh-kill without the vole even noticing she had been there. Darkeyes turned back to Lightningfoot, her eyes glowing with pride. Already it had been a promising day and she couldn't actually believe Lightningfoot had shown any interest in her. She sent a prayer of thanks up to StarClan, for the prey and well for everything else too. It had been a good couple days.

Lightningfoot's pelt prickled in admiration at her speed. When she reappeared with the vole in her jaws, he purred.
Now it's my turn, he decided. He opened his jaws and scented the air. I can't mess up or she'll never let me hear the end of it - ah! Mouse!
He located the scuffling creature quickly. It was flitting back and forth between two roots, shuffling in the dirt. Lightningfoot dropped into the hunting crouch and crept forward, step by step. StarClan had blessed their outing - after a pounce, he too had prey to show.
