(( Silver )) Squirrelfire woke up before the sun's rays even touched the sky. She was full of excitement after getting her first apprentice. The ginger she-cat groomed her long fur after she woke, then gulped down a small piece of prey. I''m going to train Applepaw today! she thought, bouncing around a little bit before going into the Apprentices' Den. She crept around the sleeping young cats and poked at Applepaw, twitching her tail. "Psst, Applepaw, get up! We are training today!" she whispered, then left the den to let the young cat wake properly.

Applepaw blinked open his amber eyes once he heard Squirrelfire's voice. Suddenly he remembered they were going to train today and his eyes flashed open and he pushed himself to his paws, no longer sleepy. He padded out of the Apprentices' Den, careful not to wake his denmates and walked out into camp, it was still dark but Applepaw had to blink a bit to get used to the change. He walked up to Squirrelfire, his tail twitching in excitement. "Hey Squirrelfire!" He meowed, then let out a big yawn. "I'm ready to train today!"

Squirrelfire smiled at Applepaw, her amber eyes glowing. "Go ahead and grab something to eat, then we can start the day with hunting!" she meowed, excited to begin her first training session where she was the mentor.

Applepaw bounded excitedly to the fresh kill pile and picked a small mouse to gulp down. He didn't want to waste any time with eating, there was prey to catch! He finished the mouse in a few mouthfuls and turned back to Squirrelfire. "Okay I'm ready!" Applepaw meowed, following his mentor.

Squirrelfire nodded and began to lead her apprentice out of the camp and into the forest that made up the territory. "Since ForestClan's ground floor is mostly dirt, you can find prey's tracks in the dirt. Over here, you can see mouse footprints," she explained, stopping to sniff the air. "There is scent of mouse here -- open your jaws to catch more of it if you can't smell anything," she meowed, dropping her voice level a bit. "A mouse will hear your paws hitting the ground," she whispered, then got into a hunter's crouch. "Make sure to crouch like this when stalking -- keep your tail low but still above the ground, and step lightly, and keep your hind legs bunched for when you pounce."

Applepaw blinked with confusion, Squirrelfire talked really fast! He hoped he could understand everything she was saying. He paused to scent the air and to his delight he could smell a mouse. Applepaw could hear it scuttling around and pinpointed it quickly. He dropped into a crouch to try and mimic Squirrelfire but it was harder than it looked. His haunches were high and he couldn't walk very well. However Applepaw didn't really notice and tried to head after the mouse. Without noticing, he stepped on a twig, causing the mouse to dart away. Applepaw let out a hiss of frustration. "Mouse-dung!" He cursed.

Squirrelfire smiled encouragingly, even though Applepaw missed the prey. "It's okay, cats rarely catch prey on their very first try! I'm sure we can find more!" she purred, eyes glowing. "Keep your haunches lower until you are ready to pounce, and maybe that will help, as well."

Applepaw nodded, eager to try again. "Should I try and see if I can find anything else?" He asked, trying to scent the area around him. He was glad Squirrelfire was being so nice, Applepaw was eager to learn but was worried about disappointing his mentor.

"Of course! I'm sure you will catch it this time, as well! What do you smell?" Squirrelfire asked, opening her own jaws to catch a few prey scents.
( Sorry for the short reply, I'm a bit low on muse D: )

(It's totally okay! I have those days!))
Applepaw paused to scent the area around him. He could smell the fading scents of the mouse and a flash of determination pulses through him. Applepaw opened his mouth wider and his eyes went wide and turned back to Squirrelfire. "I think I can smell squirrel!"
