"Good job, with squirrels, you have to be quick before they get up a tree," she murmured, nudging Applepaw. "Stalk it like I showed you, and pounce when you are close enough."

Applepaw nodded, eager to please his mentor. He began to stalk, doing a lot better than last time, and began to creep up on the squirrel. His heart was going a hundred miles an hour and Applepaw was trying to pay attention to the squirrel and where he was putting his paws. Slowly, pawstep by pawstep he got closer to the squirrel and when he was in pouncing range he leaped. The leap wasn't very graceful and he misjudged it by a bit but Applepaw managed to land on top of the squirrel and killed it with one bite. He turned back to Squirrelfire with the squirrel in his mouth and his eyes glowing with excitement. "I got it!"

"Oh, great job Applepaw, I knew you could!" the she-cat purred, bouncing up in excitement for her apprentice. "Your first kill!" Squirrelfire swished her tail. His pounce could use more work, but at least he caught it!

"I can't wait to show the other apprentices!" Applepaw meowed with excitement, feeling rather mature. "What are we going to do next?"

"Shall we try climbing?" Squirrelfire purred, because she loved climbing and wanted to see if Applepaw would as well.

"Er.... Sure." Applepaw muttered nervously. He had never tried to climb trees before and they looked so high! "I don't really know what to do though... what if I get stuck?"

The ginger she-cat turned her gaze to a moderately low tree near by, but still high enough to be interesting. "All you have to do is find small pawholds in the trunk of the tree. If you need to rest, just climb to the side on one of the thicker branches that can hold your weight. Don't try to go fast on your first try, but it is kind of like running upwards, if you understand that. I'll be right behind you the whole time to help, alright?"
As Squirrelfire spoke, her bushy tail twitched in excitement. Climbing was definitely her favorite thing to do -- a bit exhausting, but the view and the thrill were definitely worth it. Besides, if Applepaw didn't like it, they just wouldn't do it again unless they had to.

Applepaw let out a nervous gulp, the tree looked really tall to him and he had never tried to climb one before. "Um... okay." Applepaw meowed, he didn't want to disappoint Squirrelfire on his first day of training. He sized up the tree and jumped, claws extended so he could grab the bark on the tree trunk. Applepaw let out a small cry and he missed and instead just hit the tree trunk and fell onto the ground. He got up, embarrassed, and before Squirrelfire could say anything, he tried again. This time he managed to find good paw-holds and scrambled up onto the first branch. "How high do you want me to go?" He asked, looking down at his mentor.

Once Applepaw fell, Squirrelfire took a step forward as if she wanted to run forward and nose her apprentice to make sure he was okay, but stopped when she saw him get right back up. She watched him go up, and felt a surge of pride from nose to tail-tip. "As high as you feel comfortable going!" the ginger she-cat called, standing at the base of the tree and preparing to climb up if Applepaw decided to climb higher.

"Yeah totally!" Applepaw called, then muttered to StarClan a prayer that he wouldn't fall out of the tree and break his neck. He sized up the next branch and began to climb. It was hard and painful work for the undeveloped muscles of Applepaw but he managed to clamor up onto the next branch. "I made it!" He called out in triumph, his eyes glowing with excitement.
